Me and My Shadow!

Have you ever caught yourself staring at your very own shadow? It’s something we’ve all done, looking into the deep black outline of yourself somehow brings a deep feeling of tranquility. So recently me and my class have been working on a piece of art that highlights value and shadow as the main focus, it was a pretty fun process. I’ll tell you how to do it in 6 easy steps!

  1. So for materials you will need 1 large piece of drawing paper, a physical photo of yourself and some basic supplies (pencil, eraser and ruler).
  2. The first thing you need to do is glue a small cutout image of yourself onto the page, either in the bottom left or right.
  3. Using a ruler, draw a straight line from the side. don’t do it in the middle, but just a bit below the center
  4. Draw lines running from your feet to the section above the center line, this makes it look 3D
  5. Now you must design your very own shadow. This can be designed after anything, whether its a future aspiration or favorite animal, it should connect to your feet
  6. Now, draw a background, which would usually be some kind of brick wall.

For my picture I drew myself as a dinosaur, the T-Rex. The reason i chose the is because the T-Rex has always been my favorite dinosaur. when I was little I was though dinosaurs were so interesting. I was originally going to draw a bear, until i came to the realization that I’m not good enough to draw bears! Unfortunately I have lost my piece of artwork. Just imagine me doing a dinosaur pose and a T-Rex as my shadow. ūüôĀ

So, how is your masterpiece? If you try it, give me a comment and tell me what you have done for your shadow! I hope you enjoyed this!

The Hour of Code!

Hello readers,

The Website!

Lately students all over the world (including me and my class) have been doing something known as the hour of code. The hour of code teaches kids how to do basic coding using a format known as “blockly” which lets us drag and drop commands into a work space make a program run!

The different programs we had used included multiple themes including Minecraft, Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies and even Star Wars! if you decide to do the hour of code, I recommend starting on Minecraft as it is the easiest and slowly progressing up to Star Wars!

These are fairly easy when using blockly but later on you have the option to write code using Javascript. At first this may be a bit more difficult to do and will require practice to complete it efficiently and not make any mistakes!

So, are you going to attempt the hour of code? tell me how you did in the form of a comment! don’t forget your blog URL!

My 3 Favorite Foods!

Food is probably one of the greatest things known to mankind. Not only does it provide us with nutrients, it provides us with a certain pleasure that we only get when we eat the foods we love! Everyone has a different list of sweet and savory treats, here is mine!

  1.  Turkey                                                                                         Roasted Turkey Shannan Denison's New Year Turkey Dinner January 02, 2012 1             Turkey is one of those foods that you only get on special occasions, the main two being Christmas and Thanksgiving. When the bird is prepared it is filled with stuffing and cooked to a beautiful crispy golden brown and is then ripped apart into dark and light meat! I cant wait until Christmas dinner!Smoked Salmon from Vancouver
  2. Smoked Salmon ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† I like catching fish, but I most certainly like eating it more! Salmon can be prepared in many ways, but out of all of them smoked salmon is one of the best! It’s chewy but easily torn apart, it has an amazing smoky flavor the leaves you wanting more! Truly an amazing food.
  3. LasagnaButternut Squash Apple Lasagna                                                                                        Lasagna is by far my favorite pasta dish. Layer upon layer of vibrant red tomato sauce, sticky stringy cheese, pasta and perfectly ground beef. It all comes together to form an amazing dish that I ask for all the time! Just thinking of this savory delicacy sure makes me hungry!

Remembrance: Over the Top

Canadian troops going “over the top” during training near St. Pol, France. October 1916.

                           Over the Top

Tired, sore and aching,
climbing despite the impossible odds
Sluggish, mud slowed me down to a crawl,
still pushing forwards
Scarred, both mentally and physically,
these wounds remind us of horrible times

both my family and friends.
Are they praying for me?
Hoping for me?
Will they remember my sacrifices?

Strong, yet still never stopping or giving in,
traversing mud and rock alike
Hopeful, clinging to the sweet thought of victory,
the will to live another day

ignoring all doubts,

finally going

                          over the top

Spooky Art!

Hello readers!

I know that this is super late but today I’m making a post on how to make a spooky masterpiece! I’ll do the steps in a numbered list:

  1. Obtain 1 large blank piece of gray construction paper
  2. Look up “Victorian Houses” view these houses, take notes on various recurring features
  3. Draw a spooky looking house, make sure it looks destroyed and ruined, it makes it look extra spooky!
  4.  Forget about that for a moment and find 1 large piece of blank white paper, pastels and paint.
  5. Use pastels to draw the bottom of the page to make it look like the ground, draw additional things such as a moon, sun or trees!
  6. Now paint the background, use colors that are similar to each-other such as blue and pink or red and orange!
  7. Now leave the painted paper out to dry
  8. go over every line on the house with a sharpie and use grey and white pencil crayons for some additional shading
  9. Cut out your house and glue it upon your sheet!

Now that is how you create a spooky Halloween house! are you going to try to make one? tell me down below in the comments!

Delightful Doughnuts!

Donuts (Coffee An), Westport, CT 06880 USA - Feb 2013

Hello readers,

So I’m guessing most of you have tried doughnuts, the lovable pastry found all over the world. What’s not to love about doughnuts? They’re fluffy, jelly-filled delights that come in many ways. From the elegant glazed doughnut to the delicious apple fritter, doughnuts are simply a pleasure food!

The origin of doughnuts is quite debated, one theory claims they were invented by Dutch settlers that had arrived in North America, while another theory states that an American man named Hanson Gregory invented them on-board a lime-trading ship in 1847 when he was only 16 years old. Apparently he was dissatisfied with the raw center of traditional pastries prompting him to cut holes in the center thus creating the famous design we all know and love! Source: Wikipedia

So reader, do you like doughnuts? If so what’s your favorite type? To be honest I could go for a good jelly filled doughnut any day of the week!

Sincerely, Nathan!

Pumpkin Carving!

ūüėȬ† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†¬†Neal Gillis via Compfight¬† ¬†

Halloween! It’s one of my favorite holidays in the year! Cool decorations, pumpkin carvings (Jack-O-Lanterns) , cool costumes and best of all, free candy!

On to the subject of the post: Jack-O-Lanterns are carved out pumpkins with candles placed inside too make it look as if the design carved into the front (which is usually a face or a fun design) that will intensely glow at night for all of the trick-or-treaters to see while they out that night for candy!

The pumpkin in the picture above is designed to look like little emoji you can make that looks like a winking face ūüėȬ†This year i’m going to make a pumpkin that will have a massive sinister smile with big cuts going all up and down strewn within it and with three large misshapen eyes that will glow creepily with evil intentions, sounds good right? So readers, what are you going to put on your Jack-O-Lanterns this year? I would love to hear so make sure to put your ideas down below in a comment, I’ll try my best reply as quickly as possible!

Cat or Dog?

Hello Readers,

Cat or Dog? the age old question, today I will answer the question on this post and give my reasoning for why I prefer cats over dogs.

A Cute Little Kitty

 Stephanie Wallace via Compfight

So let’s start off with why I like cats!

  1. Their personality. Cats can be extremely diverse in their personality, they could be fun happy cats or they can be angry mean cats!
  2. Their Fur. Cats are extremely soft which makes them super nice to cuddle with which leads into the next point.
  3. Cuddles! Some cats love to cuddle with their owners. My cat especially, she sleeps on my arms while I sleep.
  4. Their patterns! The patterns on cats can be a simple single color pattern or be so intricate like my cat, who has tiger stripes and spots! One of my cats is a deep gray with beige markings on her belly and side!
  5. Only the owner understands their cat! Cats are neat in the way that they all do different things that non-cat owner would not understand. When my cat won’t stop meowing, it means she’s lonely, when it’s one big meow she wants to play or go outside. Purring does not always mean that cats are happy, with some cats it can be a sign of happiness or loneliness. My cat Willow even makes a grunting noise when you do something she doesn’t like. Only the owner understands their cats!

Cats and dogs are both great animals. I’d know, I have three cats and two dogs! I just last year got my own cat, i wouldn’t trade her for anything at all! I LOVE CATS!¬†So reader, what do you prefer? Whats your reasoning? Comment below!

Blog Posts Worth Reading

Hello There!

Today’s post will be about blog posts that I think are good and interesting to read. Today¬†I’ll only have two different blogs but someday I may come back to this and revamp it.

    1. TheEdenBlogger

So to start off with a good one, here is a blog post that I found while looking through the Student Blogging Challenge 2015

      Here’s my comment:
Hello TheEdenBlogger! To start off I have to say, we have many things in common. I also think that the aesthetic design of the looks really nice too, the notebook feel is cool! I will be returning later, look out for more of my comments on your posts!-Nate

    2. ¬†hbor’s (Hunter’s) blog

This is quite an interesting one to read. his most recent post was about Pennsylvania, mostly about notable locations there!

      here is my comment:
      Hi Hunter,

This post about Pennsylvania is neat. Too bad I would never get to go, I live in Canada at the moment. Rides at Dutch Wonderland and trying chocolates at Hershey Park would be delightful and the Liberty Bell looks like it would really loud. Now, a question for you, Have you been to Canada?

So like I said before, due to time restraints (a holiday) I’m only putting 2 awesome blogs on the list. So reader, did you go and read these? Which was your favorite? See you next time!
